Removing a peel and stick veneer. How to remove psa adhesive from a veneered surface.

Re: PSA Peel and stick veneer.  The psa adhesive that sticks the veneer sheet down is tenacious.  I veneered my table with a veneer that has the psa peel and stick adhesive.  I decided to remove the veneer and start over with a different species of veneer.   I was able to get the psa veneer pulled loose, even though it stuck to my table top like an atomic magnet  A lot of the psa adhesive stayed stuck to my table top.  Now, I can't figure out how to remove the peel and stick adhesive.  I've tried a variety of solvents, paint remover, and glue goop remover.  Nothing touches the psa adhesive!  Bob Morgan, please tell me how to remove the psa adhesive from my table top!  Tom

Answer:  Tom, you aren't the only one who can't get the psa adhesive loosened and removed!  The psa adhesive is specially formulated the finishes that can be applied to the veneered surface.  That's why you haven't been able to loosen it or attack it with the solvents that you have tried.

How to remove the psa veneer from your table:  You can try some orange oil.  This is usually available at a hardware store.  This is not likely to give you the results that you want.  But, you can try it.

Use acetone to remove the psa from your table. DO NOT (DO NOT) do this indoors.  Go outside with your veneered table when using the acetone.  Wipe the acetone on with a clean cloth, let stand for a bit.  Scrub the surface with the rag.   The psa adhesive will ball up on your cloth.  You can also use a scraper to help get the psa adhesive off of the surface.

Some people also recommend xylene for this.
