How To Veneer A Tiger Oak Table Top. Tiger Oak Veneer. Laying Out The Tiger Oak Veneer For A Table Top.

Posted by

Q. I have a very old tiger oak veneer table. I have already removed the tiger oak veneer off of the table top. The tiger oak veneer was Super damaged. The tiger oak veneer pattern seemed to have all sorts of different patterns, so I'm not sure which tiger oak veneer pattern to pick. What should I do?

The tiger oak veneer will cover my 54” round table. The table pulls apart in the middle. If I order the 2×8 veneer sheets or the 4×8 veneer sheets would I then cut into the strip sizes I need?

What size tiger oak veneer sheet would I need for a 54” diameter table.

Answer: When you place your order on my Veneer Factory Outlet website,  you will be able to view several different examples of the flake patterns of the tiger oak veneer. The photos of the tiger oak will show some typical examples.

Remember: the photos are typical examples, not exact images of what your tiger oak veneer will look like. There’s just no way to control mother nature, especially with a veneer like tiger oak.The flake patterns, tones, colors, wood grains can vary from tree to tree and even within the same tree.

If you are clever, you can probably use a single sheet of the 4’ x 8’ Tiger oak veneer to cover both sides of your table top.You can use 2 paper cutouts that represent the 2 halves of your table top. These would be scaled, perhaps to about 10% of the actual size of your table top.

Place the paper cutouts onto a sheet of paper that represents the 4’ x 8’ sheet of tiger oak. The paper would be scaled to the same 10% scale as the paper cutouts. With clever positioning of the paper cutouts, you can determine if/how to use a single sheet of the 4’ x 8’ tiger oak to obtain the life size sheets to cover the 2 halves of your table top.

Please note that the grain patterns of the 2 halves of the table top will not be exact matches. If you want the grain patterns to match, you will need to use a 5’ x 8’ sheet of tiger oak veneer to cut out the 2 pieces of veneer for your table top.

If you need additional strips of the tiger oak veneer to cover miscellaneous areas of your table (legs, skirt, edges), there may be enough “left over” veneer in the 4’ x 8’ sheet for this.Otherwise, you will need to order a 2’ x 8’ sheet of tiger oak to obtain the miscellaneous pieces that you need.

I recommend that you use a peel and stick tiger oak veneer for your project. The 2 ply wood backed tiger oak would be my choice. The paper backed tiger oak would also be a good choice.

Be sure to check out the tutorials and videos on my website for instructions on how to prep the surface of your table top before applying the tiger oak veneer.
