How To Remove The Paper Tape From The Surface Of A Veneer Face

Some of our veneers such as our crotch mahogany, walnut burl and  walnut stump veneer faces are made for the furniture industry.  A few areas on the veneer surface may be professionally doped and taped with veneer tape at the factory.

The paper tape is a water based, gummed tape that was put on during the manufacturing process.  After your face is glued to the substrate, remove the tape.  Use a damp sponge to dampen the tape.  Give it some time for the dampness to soak into the tape.  The glue will loosen and you can scrape and sand the tape off.  Note:  Be sure to get the glue residue out of the wood pores.  Use a damp sponge for this.  Also, sand the surface where the tape came off.  The mistake that most people make is to use too fine of a grit for sanding.  Bob Morgan

Note: The crotch mahogany faces, some of our walnut burls,  and the walnut stump faces are the only veneers on our website that may have veneer tape on the surface.

None of our other veneers on this website have veneer tape on them, as they have been finish sanded at the factory.
